}} Burnie Airport, also called Wynyard Airport, is a small regional airport located in Wynyard near the town of Burnie, Tasmania, Australia.
The airport is centrally located on Tasmania's North West Coast. Two airlines, Rex (Regional Express) and Tasair operate on the airport, flying to and from Melbourne, Hobart and King Island. Regional Express operate 5 flights per day using mostly Saab 340A's (8 aircraft in total) but sometimes Saab 340B and its Melbourne to Burnie route is one of its busiest. Airlines and Destinations

Virgin Blue

Devonport and Burnie Councils have both been vying for the attention of Virgin Blue(External Link). Both airports currently only have one airline servicing them operating multiple flights daily to Melbourne(Rex in Burnie's case). Virgin Blue have investigated the potential for flying to both airports from Melbourne, yet if they were to fly to the north west Tasmanian coast, would only fly to one or the other. No official announcements have been made by Virgin Blue.
